I want to see a gritty special forces show of an Imperial squad performing missions for the Empire. All from their side with the rebels seen as complete barbaric enemies. Hell, throw in Saw Gerrara and his forces and how he will do ANYTHING to win, even kill innocent civilians who don’t want to help him in his endeavors.
No, the campaign for Inferno Squad in BF2 wasn’t good enough.
Personally I would love a movie or mini-series - which leans heavily on the more graphic, grounded aspects of the EU - beginning with the Malachor V incident, showcasing the backstory and rise of both Darth Scion and Darth Nihilus - ultimately being found by Darth Traya and forming the Sith Triumvirate. I’d love an open-ending that shows Scion taking the Republic Vessel and arriving at Peragus, and a post-credits scene of Nihilus sending Visas Marr to hunt Meetra Surik.
I’d also love to see a series with Gungi set 100yrs or so after the OT in which he’d be restoring or expanding a new Galactic Jedi Order as a threat from the Void begins to destabilize the galaxy. Ideally he’d have the wisdom of Yoda (if not more) but without Yoda’s arrogance, given his coming-of-age during the CW and the GCW
I would absolutely kill for a number of series on the KOTOR games.
Start with the Mandalorian Wars and Revan running off; Malachor 5, all that… then Revan and Malak turning. Metra’s work in restoring the Jedi.
The only reason I hesitate is because Disney would fuck it up.
My first thought is very surface level that I want to see a live action adaption of the Tales Of The Bounty Hunters book. It’s a perfect opportunity to get a variety of directors and to lets each segment really push into different genres. The IG-88 story always stuck with me personally because it has so much going on. IG-88 is created as a shady off the books project, which goes wrong for the creators. It’s like a horror movie section with a terminator coming to life. Then it becomes a kind of strange scifi conspiracy with the IG-88s taking over a robot production planet while keeping up appearances. Simultaneously it incorporates bounty hunting and brings in Boba Fett in his classic cold blooded EU incarnation. It’s just fantastic. And much as I gush, the other stories in the book are all interesting in their own ways as well.
After that, since Star Wars is heavily “WW2 in space”, I’d like to see some kind of submarine warfare analog. Perhaps it makes more sense to put the rebels in the shoes of a wolfpack hunting down Imperial supply convoys, and evading their counter measures with wit and luck. Think of all the tense submarine movie cliches and port them into a Star Wars setting. I think it clicks.
These ideas fall short of high concept, high minded examination of deeper things, but they come to mind for me when I think of what I’d be gripped by in Star Wars live action. I’m sure there is a lot more examination that could complement these ideas and fill them out to be more substantial.
Both of those sound awesome. Man, I should re-read my Tales books soon.
Is that the one where IG-88E or something eventually hooks into the death star and just as it’s about to take over Luke blows it up?
That’s the one. It was IG-88A, the original of the four, uploading into the Death Star II.
I’d like to see an apocalypse now sort of movie following a squad of stormtroopers.
Potentially an unpopular opinion, but I’ve always loved the political side of star wars, so I would love to see more of that. I felt that the Clone Wars struck a healthy balance between politics and action, but I would still love to see more of the political side.
My god, if the Viceroy for the Trade Federation were to enforce an embargo on Coruscant, and it was actually approved by the Imperial Senate and supported by the Confederacy of Independent Systems!? Hooo-boy, that would be a banger.
I’m in the middle of the Lost Stars manga right now. I wonder if it could be made into a 2D animated film.
I would like to see a more balanced view of the Force and how the jedi’s complacency/rule has been a fertile ground for corruption and injustice. And/or how a lot of jedi concepts especially regarding human relations and emotions are unhealthy.
Basically a more modern approach to how a jedi theocracy is problematic as fuck. Kotor 2 tried to lean a little bit on that and had the option of being “neutral”.
I want them to make a rogue squadron show.
Just clone every episode of Black sheep squadron into Star wars.
