Hi. So, all my accounts got banned from reddit. Including my new one that had nothing to do with the reason I got banned, but apparently they thought I was evading the fucking ban by making a new account! So, do I spend countless hours scouring the internet looking for an alternative to reddit, or do I risk it yet again, and make a new account?

    Welcome here,

Note that the goal isn’t to build a safe haven for the troll banned from reddit, but a nice and friendly community independent from large corporation/advertissement/data mining algorithm.

Now, if you’re not unreasonably trolling, have fun here, the more people the better.

    Some c worth following

    !imageai@sh.itjust.works

    !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world

    !rpgmemes@ttrpg.network

And here are some local communities

!europe@feddit.de You can also find a list of National communities in the sidebar of !yurop@lemm.ee

The laid back I follow include

    !forumlibre@jlai.lu (In French)

    !dach@feddit.de (In German)

Also, might be worth checking alexandrite.app which provides a modern user interface whatever the instance you use

    have fun

P.S. Don’t forget the language tag, a feature missing on reddit, not only it helps people filtering out the language they don’t speak, but it also make the site more accessible for people using a screen reader

Depends on what reddit was for you. If it was because consooom (more=better) then you might wanna try twitter next. Same goes for drama.

If you want forum style social media with mostly real people and interesting content, then you should probably stay here.

I dont know what option three would be but feel free to tell me.

You’re cooked. Same thing happened to me. I tried for a few days to see if there was any way around it, but I wasn’t about to get a VPN just to use Reddit. Or get a whole new device.

Pretty sure they have all the IPs that your account has ever connected to, so anything attempting to login from those IPs will also be banned. So that’s what you’ll have to work around, if you want to do it.

I’m no expert though, that’s just what I learned over my couple of days of trying.

+Looks like there’s no need for scouring the internet for an alternative, you’ve already found it.

They don’t ban solely by IP. When you’re banned, they note the IPs you use, but because most internet account IPs are not static, they watch what new accounts from the IP do. If they go to the same subreddits as the banned account, it gets the ban hammer.

From what I can tell it is IP address + browser fingerprinting. Possibly a little more emphasis on the browser fingerprinting.

How do you get banned from Reddit? I know mods can ban from their subreddits, but getting banned from the entire site?

    Congratulations! Reddit is mostly terrible.

If you want to participate in some niche communities I can understand wanting a new account. Most likely they’re tracing you through these things, with the first ones being more likely:

    • Email address (hopefully you’re using different ones but this is an easy way for them to associate accounts).

    • IP address.

    • Browser or phone fingerprinting.

For your IP address you can just try to get a new one. Sometimes restarting your modem will do that. Ask Google what your IP address is before and after.

For browser fingerprinting, I’d just clear the cache and that’s probably enough. Alternatively just use a different browser for Reddit for a while.

For app fingerprinting that’s a bit harder and I’d say to just not use the official Reddit app if that’s what you were doing before.

I got bannek from r/korea because I recorded a video of a big newsworthy fire close to the motorway, uploaded it to my own instance of PeerTube and linked to it in my post.

They said I should have uploaded it to YouTube or some other 3rd party website to not be accused of self promotion.

After two years livin g in Korea and banned fro r/korea I moved to Lemmy and deleted my whole account there.

Self promotion rule is the stupidest rule ever. I get it sometime it help filter out spamming, but this basically just switch from ad spam to astro-turfing.

I gave up on Reddit a lot more easily than you did, that’s for sure. When King Julian told us that our concerns weren’t worth a damn, and when he said he wanted to emulate what Elon Musk has done to, er, with Twitter, I decided it was time to make tracks. You don’t HAVE to let heartless tech billionaires fuck you in the ass for the convenience. I don’t find this dick in the ass very convenient.
