The best LTT video i have seen in a while; It has everything
- New and emerging experimental tech
- Showing off progress in opensource standards
- Nice Eli5 on what this is, why is it important, who are the stakeholders and what this means for the future
- Linux
- classic ltt humor and jank(they got euro truck simulator working on RISC-V running linux FFS)
- all nicely polished and presented.
Unfortunately by the time it took to get this video out the algorithm had already penalized them for missing their regular upload schedule as evidenced by such a low view count;
its a shame i really like their content(especially the newer videos which have a good coat of polish)
but it seems like they will either have to go back to their rapid upload schedule or come up with a new format that is commercially profitable and critically satisfactory.
Im sorry is this the „I hate LTT” instance? I’m confused. I agree with OP and want LTT to succeed and I’m surprised to see his post downvoted and people criticising upvoted lol
Yeah i am confused as well, It was honestly a great video but even on reddit there wasn’t any discussion related to it
Far as I can tell people are just butt hurt that LTT is still popular. Pretty sure they’re mostly just trolls who reside in this LTT Lemmy instance, they probably try and go to the main LTT forums, but they’d get kicked out pretty fast.
This is lemmy.ml. They tend to be a little more crazy in there believes
Why?
Their recent videos have lower view counts, their no of views during first 5 hours of release are also way lower, the algorithm that promotes the videos jutters out if you suddenly do something out of the norm, this video was clearly delayed for polish hence the algorithm didn’t promote this video as much
Do you think the algorithm accounts for audiences being put off by all that’s come to light?
I think you overestimate how informed the average LTT viewer is.
I stopped watching their channels after all the controversy. I had felt some of their content was low brow and low effort, but I liked some of their hosts and the nerd humor.
Once I saw the various reports enumerating all the issues and the Linus’s response, I decided I had outgrown their channel and moved on.
I feel the same way as you, it’s tough to watch now so I don’t
but I’m also capable of letting people make their own judgments and enjoy things I don’t like so I should probably dip out this sub lol
Pretty much every video they release has over 1 million views and alot have 2 million or over . I think they will be fine
Have they released the investigation result abput sexual-harassment allegations from Madison yet? Also have they implemented proper over-time pay (including late time during weekday)? Because 8-6 they showed in the apology video is not normal 8 hour work time.
These are not a rhetorical questions, I really want to know the answer. I love their content, but due to these issues, I feel like I cannot support this company anymore. So I have to unfollow all their channel.
If they finally addressed these two problem properly, I will probably go back to give them another chance.
They haven’t released the investigation results because they aren’t finished the investigation. And that’s a good thing because it means it’s not being half-assed. Remember that they need to hire a third-party, have that third party interview EVERYONE involved (while those people are working, so that’s not exactly easy), go through records, etc. There’s a lot to do.
What are your issues with the overtime pay? From my experience, it’s standard if not better.
I understand that investigation takes time, however, I personally cannot support them until this issue is properly addressed. Once they addresses this, I believe people will likely go back.
In their apology video, they showed that people com by 8 and leaves by 6 (they didnt show th e parking situation at 5, so I am not sure how many people leave at 5). Even if they dont pay for lunch break, normal 8 hour work day is 8-5 or 9-6, this means they probably need to pay 1hour overtime pre-day? Accoding to https://www.canada.ca/en/services/jobs/workplace/federal-labour-standards/work-hours.html#h3.01.01, it seems like canada requires 1.5 payment for time over 8 hours per week (which is pretty low by international standard).
It’s time and a half over 8 hours, double time over 12. A normal 8 hour work day would actually be 8:30-5pm or 9-5:30pm with an unpaid lunch break. Normally I wouldn’t be so pedantic, but it pushes things a bit closer to the 6pm mark.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen our apology video, and I’m NOT arguing that it is without problems, but I’m not sure this is one of them (though I’m just a writer). We’re allowed to arrive anywhere between 8:30 and 9:30 without being considered late (so that would be 9:30-6pm), and sometimes people come in late because things out of their control happen (like traffic), and they make that up. Also, we can usually “pause” our shifts in the middle if we need to do something, like go to an appointment or something.
For example, since TL/GL requires making an entire video in one day, I take a split shift whenever I’m main writer. I head home right after filming and hang out until the edit is done. That way, I have enough time left in my work day to remotely review the edit and post the video to all relevant platforms.
Also, there’s a gaming lounge and we have lounge nights every other week, so sometimes people stay behind for that. But sometimes (rarely) I have done overtime but it’s like 30 minutes at the most. But I can only speak for myself, of course.
