While I appreciate your enthusiasm – you know what happened when my daughter took this advice? 3 cops showed up at my door at 2am and baker-acted her. She spent the next 2 weeks in a psychiatric ward being evaluated. Many of these places use incredibly ham-fisted methods, and they aren’t for the sake of actually helping that person. Here in America those people are treated as less-than-human at every step of the way. They see suicidal people as a revenue stream.

I mean, that’s bad but what’s the alternative for someone that’s desperate and alone? Do nothing?

Honestly, we need people who are willing to reach out to that person and be their friend. Convince them to start therapy, convince them to see their doctor. From what I’ve learned from my daughter, she just didn’t see a future for herself. She still struggles with her identity, people online have convinced her she’s not a human being (literally, some “therian” group talking people into believing that they’re actually dogs/cats/horse souls in a human body) – We found that the biggest problem was the internet, first and foremost. Once we got all of our kids off of it, they all started doing a lot better.

We thought she was old enough to handle all of the weird shit online – I got online at 12 and witnessed all sorts of horrid shit, completely unsupervised, but the world wasn’t nearly as connected back then. We have some truly horrid people on the internet now.

I found some of her contacts were goading her into committing suicide, there were people in her groups that were literally there to find anyone with … let’s call them “alternative” lifestyles … and they were trying to befriend people, and talk them into offing themselves.

When I deleted all of that stuff, I had messaged the groups saying that my daughter was safe but was going through some things, I got 3 DMs from random people with things like “There’s nothing wrong with trying to kill yourself!”. The world truly is a toxic hellhole; and a lot of it is confined to private areas of the internet like Discord.

I found lots of the stuff on YouTube targeted towards kids had lots and lots of suicide topics going on as well. I’m fairly supervising when it comes to internet-time with my children too. I try to watch the channels they watch, I try to ensure what they’re getting into isn’t crazy – while still staying back enough to respect their privacy.

Turns out that was a mistake.

You could give away the stuff to others, depending on where you live put it up on some marketplace. Maybe like eBay. Will also depend on whether you just want to get rid of it or earn something back from the sale.

A lot of organisations accept clothes and other belongings as donation for those in need.

I am in no position to tell yourself what to do or not with your life. I know that telling you “things will get better” is just a nice way to try to get you to endure it further. As good or bad as it is, people are mostly clueless on how to handle such situations but try to be supportive. The only things I can do is be here to listen if you need someone to talk to.

There are companies that clear out places after inhabitants are no longer around. It’s routine after inheriting. Giving stuff away piece by piece is an exhausting and annoying exercise. Seems like a pretty redundant and needlessly emotional task either way.

If you want to delay, why not spend that time in therapy instead and maybe even end up in a place where you actually receive pleasure from your environment again?

Take a long walk through a beautiful forest, take in all the greenery and fresh air and maybe reconsider. Life is precious. You can always sell all your stuff and just leave. Ever wanted to live as a backpacker? Just go wherever you want and the road takes you.

Life is just a bleak pile of shit sometimes. But there are wonderful parts too. Reach out to one person you know and talk to them. The rules of statistics say that way more people appreciate you than you think. If you dont immediately know who to call, check https://findahelpline.com

I hope you get better soon.

If you’ve got regular access to the internet, and you’ve managed to stay fed and watered, you’re doing better than most of humanity that ever existed. It’s a struggle, for sure - but fight it. Or find something worth fighting for. I was in a position similar to you, and then was told that I had cancer. When actually faced with that very permanent end, I decided I was sticking around. You’re wrong that talking to people won’t help - it absolutely does.

So unless you’re a murderer, pedophile, rapist, abuser, etc - WE are better off having you here. Do us the favor and stay. At the very least, if you absolutely decide you don’t want to stick around - at least do something good before the end.
