Anyone who wakes up early and might be able to help?

I wake up at 4am but can’t get enough sleep. I would have to go to bed at 8pm which really seems too much. I don’t really go out these days so it wouldn’t really make any difference at all, but at what time do you guys sleep really?

Haha I don’t know it’s just what I would normally think, but of course maybe it’s just a mindset. As I said, making this sort of change wouldn’t really make any difference in my life right now

Do you really need that much sleep? Some people operate fine with less than the normal amount.

Mhh I Just started actually, so it could be I just need to get used to it. But I need a loopy of coffee to wake up and stay awake during the day, and of course I want to be functioning during the day, keeping my eyes open isn’t enough 😭 It’s 5 am now and still not out running. Can’t even get back to sleep cause I already had coffee, I feel like I just wasted a whole day already

Why are you waking up that early? If running at 5am isn’t working for you, try afternoon or evening. Like all the other advice I gave you the other day, the best plans and goals are the ones that work for you. Just because some people have success running at 5am doesn’t mean that’s what you should do.

Personally, I sleep around 10pm to 6am. Run at 6:30ish on days I do run. Quick shower and my long commute of about 14 steps to my office for work by 8. On days I don’t run, I usually do an extra long stretching, mobility, bodyweight workout in the morning, or sleep in and do a lifting session at the gym in the evening.

Today I did nothing but about 10 min stretching because I didn’t feel like it. And since I set my plans assuming some days will be like this, I’m still on track to my weekly plan.

I don’t like running during the day or late in the day. I want it for sure to be in the morning and before other people are out. I love being already up, it’s just a habit I still have to develop

Counter question: why do you think that you cannot get enough sleep? Do you feel sleep deprived? As somebody else mentioned earlier, you may not need as much sleep.

A few general tips that may or may not apply to you:

    • No more screen time at least an hour before going to bed. Read a book instead. Blue light will mess with your brain.
    • Do not drink caffeinated drinks or alcohol. I usually stop drinking caffienated drinks around 3PM. I do enjoy a beer though, but I do not have any trouble sleeping.
    • When do you eat your largest meal of the day? You may simply be too busy digesting your main meal.
    • Do you suffer from anxiety, depression or any other mental issues that may prevent you from sleeping? Maybe it would help to have that looked into.

I normally sleep from 10:30-ish to 6:30-ish. As for running, I mostly do that either late morning or late afternoon, as my energy levels are highest then. However, I have school going kids and a 9 to 5 job. I do not know your situation, so YMMV.
