It did feel like they were wrapping up a lot of loose ends before Doomsday comes in and flips the table.

Though its story dabbles in reflections about grief, it’s mostly a straightforward action flick.
So I won’t disagree that it’s an action flick and it is action heavy, I don’t think “dabbles” is the right word. Grief and mental health are a core part of the film. The bad guy is defeated by a group hug and the power of friendship.
Is it the best execution? Maybe not, but it’s done well and it’s a new idea to explore within the MCU.
