Ah, gotcha. Feel like I’m too old to keep up with it now.

Are these called “Wojack” memes? I’ve never understood why this art style became so popular.
I would say not much. If it’s your own personal LAN, and only your devices are on it, and you’re not hosting super sensitive data, then I wouldn’t personally be worried. Just depends on your risk acceptance.
Edit: But if you are hosting sensitive data on an untrusted network, then definitely require a user with a strong password. Also, SMB3 and higher supports encryption (both in Windows and Samba for Linux). Encryption isn’t enabled by default, though. So keep that in mind. Easy to setup on both Windows and Linux.
That’s a security quirk. Microsoft reeeeeally doesn’t want you to do anonymous SMB anymore, and with every version of Windows, Microsoft has made is more complicated to get it working like that. It’s probably still possible, but easier just to make a quick local user account and assign it read/write permissions to the share. Samba on Linux can still do it without as much fuss, but I’ve long since just accepted the extra step.
I agree. One of my favorites. Feels like a Black Mirror episode. I watched another one recently called Companion that I’d recommend to anyone who likes Ex Machina.
I’ve got 25 years of Linux usage under my belt at this point, and I’ve settled on Debian for all PCs, servers, and anything else. Stability is so much more important to me than bleeding edge software, but for those things that absolutely need the latest and greatest, there’s Backports and Flatpak.
Well, ya got me there.
Maybe because IBM bought Redhat so they’re saying it’s corporate? Just a wild guess. I use Debian, and not sure why that makes me the hide the pain meme.
I still use grep with journalctl because I find their built-in filter to be poopy.
Fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy.
Man, that bugs me how many Americans are out there giving the rest of us a bad name. I don’t travel, but if I did, I’d be grateful a non-native English speaker knew any English at all. And not learning enough of their language to at least get you by for the trip just sounds like poor planning in general. Some people are just incapable of looking before they leap, and for some reason a bunch of those people travel.

I’ve heard that some people end up using food as a substitute.
Exactly this. Myspace was great for meeting new people. They even let you search for people in a given area by age, gender, interests, etc. Facebook, from what I remember (deleted mine years ago), was actively hostile towards you meeting people on their site, to the point that if someone added you that had no mutual friends, the site would ask if you knew them in real life.
From what I’ve read, YouTubers don’t get paid from views that use an ad-blocker, but they still do from views that have premium, so my justification is that I’m helping support the creators I like. I’m also paying for Nebula, which some of the documentary-style creators upload to as well now.
I’m one of the dozen people that bought premium to not have to deal with it. I’m just patiently waiting for alternatives to become more viable so I can jump ship entirely. YouTube is the last remaining Google service I still use.
Just stop dual booting. This is self-inflicted harm. Setup a VM or find a native workaround.
