I know Silca makes highly regarded floor pumps and they sell replacement parts for the internals. You could check them out. Boy are they expensive though.

When people refer to metal balls as ball bearings. A ball bearing is an assembly of outer ring, inner ring, balls, and a cage/retainer. I worked in bearing manufacture for years and they’re just referred to as balls. To be more specific, it would be a bearing ball, not a ball bearing.
I could be wrong, but aren’t a lot of injuries caused by being rear-ended while waiting at a red? I’m pretty sure that’s the case for motorcycles so I imagine it’s similar for bikes. I normally wait at reds but I’ll run it if there’s no traffic. It feels more like jay-walking than running a red light. Most people are perfectly fine with jay-walking.
I prefer belt drive with a sealed internal geared hub. It’s not for everyone or every situation but it’s nice riding in the wet and just putting the bike away after without thinking about cleaning and lubrication
You just equated blocking c/politics with being broadly pro status quo. You can be politically engaged and active and not like the discussions on c/politics.
Amen! I went to a restaurant that had this layout. Each stall was like it’s own little room with a full sized door and a shared sink area. It’s more efficient use of space and you get a better stall. The only thing that I think would make it better would be a small side area with a couple urinals.
This seems like a neat light. I’m willing to invest in good lights, but I’m not willing to carry around such a bulky solution. My normal lights detach and I can throw them in a small pocket on a bag. These would take up the whole bag. I can see them being well suited to road cyclists who don’t leave their bikes parked much. But for an urban commuter, id like a smaller option.
I just checked mine and it has no permissions. How is it collecting everything?
Worm gears? Internal hubs are generally less efficient but that only really matters when you’re racing. For groceries, the extra reliability is worth it to me.
Yes but not like that. I have 2 belt-drive bikes with internal hub gears. For a utilitarian city bike, I think there’s nothing better and they will be much more common as more people try them.
List of benefits:
Downsides:
I have a friend who used to drink too much water. This eventually lead to him having dangerously low sodium levels but he didn’t know that. One day, he knew something was wrong and was yelling to his landlady next door to get help. He passed out outside of his apartment. Then he was in a coma for 4 days.
I asked him what the coma was like. He said he remembered having a vague sense of panic like he was still trying to get his landlady. He doesn’t remember, but when he first woke up, he was screaming her name and fighting the nurses.
I’ve heard a lot of terrible takes when it comes to the gun control debate. But this might be the first well thought out proposal I’ve heard.
I need to leave this thread. Interstellar is my favorite movie of all time.
This happens to me if I have my VPN on from my phone app.
In college, we used to go to the top of parking garages to smoke weed at night. This kinda looks like a parking garage.
I could not disagree more about Contact. I read the book first. I found it to be an incredibly realistic depiction of what contact with alien life might look like. The clashing of world powers, science, and religion are central themes. The movie slimmed down the story as you would expect, but they completely changed the message at the end. The book ends with Ellie finding actual evidence for some divine being which eliminates her conflict with faith. The world governments had already been forced to cooperate much more. Now with the final conflict resolved, it’s implied that humanity can move forward in a more unified direction. The movie has her just believe in God, more or less. The Christians were right…
