That is still considered active trading when someone is manually picking which stocks to buy. Historically, passive investing into index funds tends to have outperformed nearly everyone who does individual stock picking based on their own judgement.
A contrarian isn’t one who always objects - that’s a confirmist of a different sort. A contrarian reasons independently, from the ground up, and resists pressure to conform.

Buying and selling stock based on short term value fluctuations.
I invest to make money, not to make a statement. If you try to combine the two, you’re likely doing one at the expense of the other. People are free to invest however they want, but making investment decisions based on emotions will inevitably be reflected in their returns - or lack thereof.
Currently, about 65% of my investments are in U.S. companies, while 7.8% are in Europe (where I live).
I didn’t know that averaging 10 messages per day is considered “posting like crazy”
Lets hear your theory then about what that means.
I wouldn’t agree with “sticking fingers in my ears and saying it doesn’t matter” being a fair representation of what I’m trying to say here.
I would claim that in the case of person’s skin color we truly shouldn’t care about it any more than we care about the color of their hair or eyes. It’s it’s a description of appearance, not a reflection of who they are. If we want to live in a world where this is the case, then my argument is that paying more attention to it is not the way to go. I’m sure the people behind this have good intentions but it’s the method I disagree with here.
I’ll save them the trouble then and out myself here by posting the only other mention of skin color on my entire post history. Clearly I can’t stop talking about race.
Concluding that someone is a lesser human because of their skin color seems just as illogical to me as calling someone a racist because they drive a lifted truck. These things are completely unrelated.
Interestingly, your post history shows that you are very interested in skin color yourself.
Feel free to dig thru it and post it here for everyone to see.
I think we should come up with a term for the kind of people to whom the color of a person’s skin is this important.
I know that feeling, and in my case it’s not even bicycle parts.
Yeah I don’t want to be that guy telling others to install an app to stay in contact with me. That would be extremely hypocritical on my part as I’m the one those people who refuses to install any apps people tells me to and it wouldn’t solve the issue anyway as then I’d still be using WhatsApp as well but now I just have one more additional app to communicate with certain people.
Nowdays doesn’t seem to matter where ever you go there’s always an app you need to install to do XY and Z. I don’t even have a Lemmy app as I only use it via browser. Same applies to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pixelfed, Reddit and so on.
Help with what?
Switching from WhatsApp to any other messaging service isn’t a realistic option for quite many places. I’d be more than willing to switch but of all the people in my contacts (including my entire customer base) there’s like 3 people using Signal but every single one of them has WhatsApp. Even the 60+ year olds.
That’s quite the number of assumptions you made there
Reddit is more diverse. The same kind of cynicism exists there too but it’s dilluted by all the other content so it’s easier to ignore. Here that is less the case as majority of the content is news articles - granted that I haven’t been to reddit for over a year so I don’t know what it’s like today.
Agreed. This is the most cynical corner of the internet I’ve ever been to, yet here I’m.
There’s plenty of censorship here though. Some instances are worse than others but even on a community basis, your average moderator is just some random dude who is free to remove your posts/comments and ban you just because they don’t like something you said and there’s not really anything you can do about it.
Fediverse as a technology yes but the userbase here does the opposite. By definition someone commenting on a message board is not a normal person because normal people don’t do that, but to be commenting on a niche platform like this makes you hyper not-normal, and yes, that applies to me as well and I’m well aware of that.
I use a foam insulation board as a cutting surface so I can safely cut into it.
My issue is that I always forget to account for the thickness of my DIY track saw guide, so I end up only cutting about two-thirds of the way through my piece.
