Good detecting. Thanks for finding out.
Quick search doesn’t give me a source.
What’s this from, and how long ago was it published?
I love it when a game is about exploring and half of the content is optional.
Do you remember your conjugation tables from Spanish or French class?
English has them too, but the modern ones are much smaller than most (all?) other European languages.
The conjugation of Be, “is” is not used in the second person (you, be it singular or plural) any more than “am” is (“am” is first person singular form.) regardless of the plurality (or lack thereof) in the subject.
The correct Be conjugations for second person subjects are “art” (2nd, singular, archaic) and “are”.
That’s because “is” is the third person conjugation of Be, not the second. Of course it sounds weird.
“Thou are”, and the actually correct “thou art” both feel much more natural.
I recall from the interview when the UK blocked it the creator said “you do nothing in it you don’t do it Black Ops. But only mine is terrorism, it’s purely political.” (paraphrased)
I’ll confess that I’ve not played either of them, so I don’t know how true that holds. But I do know that a lot of those console shooters are very political and the world seems fine with it when it’s a US avatar shooting up Arabs.
That’s all very fair and sensible.
I can see it being very frustrating if people’s first response to ideologies close to you is dunk on Rand rather than actually engaging with what you’re trying to say.
I think a better critique of “rational self interest” if you’re looking for one would be that it can be argued to be either too widespread to have meaning (the flip side of “I don’t agree with them/am starting from different axioms thus they’re irrational”), or too narrow and thus never actually employed.
It is a shame that other Rational Self-interest philosophies don’t get their time in the sun… While Rand I hear is still required/recommended reading in some schools.
An advantage of writing fiction to articulate your ideas I suppose.
There is more nuance to both philosophies than the spark-notes take away if “Rational self interest”. Which if that in itself is what you’re arguing for, and along the paths you’re arguing, Egoism explicitly talking about the voluntary coming together of individuals to temporarily work together towards common goals makes a better baseline than Objectivism’s zero-sum view on human interactions.
I think what you’re describing is more wheelhouse of the less often talked about Egoism of Stirner, than the Objectivism of Rand.
Alas the UK has begun outsourcing prisons to private companies like G4S to profit from.
We are ever the worst of Western Europe.
Only lines with voice work for me, even though there are plenty of great unvoiced lines across games. Sorted by game… I think this post certainly puts me of a generation.
“My emperor! I’ve failed youuuu!”
“Fox, get this guy off me!”
“You’re good, but I’m BETTER!”
“Never give up, trust your instincts!”
“IF THIS DOES NOT WORK!”
Honestly one of the most quoteable games ever made.
“Stay a while and listen.”
“My hotel’s as clean as an Elven arse!”
“Whaaaat?!”
“Tiax shall smite ye.”
“Heya, it’s me Imoen.”
“MASSACRE!”
“Not yet!”
“hyut hyut hyut”
“My fists never betray me!”
“Don’t stand behind me.”
“I’m gonna sleep well tonight!”
“The feeling… It’s… coming back!”
“Good vibrations!”
“Hello brother! […] I live on in this arm!”
“Laugh, and grow fat!”
“What was that just now?”
Love a good ham. We need more of them in video games.
“I’mma Luigi, number 1.”
“Falcon PUNCH!”
“You’re going the wrong way!”
“Retired!”
“You require more vespene gas!”
“All crews operational.” / “Battlecruiser operational.” ?
“En’taro Adun executor.”
“I do this for Auir, not you!”
“Your base in under attack.”
“So what shall it be? Will you join the Unity or will you die here? Join… DIE! Join… DIE!”
“Doctor required in inflator room.”
“[…] to the last place uncorrupted by Capitalism! SPACE!”
Or, if you’re of a more gnostic bent, half fallen angel, half human nephilim who’d been teaching humans forbidden knowledge, such as advanced metal-crafting and makeup.
Convenience is antithetical to meaning.
It’s harder to advocate for destroying things one possesses.
If we want to end Capitalism, not being invested in it is probably more helpful than not.
That said, I have met a fair few people that would fall under the label of “Leftist” that have had small businesses. Although not the hyper-radical left.
My arm hair is like a fish.
Dark on top, pale underneath, and while not as dense as my leg hair it is still very apparent.
I will admit to not noticing it as often in others, but I also don’t have a visual memory.
Is arm hair not really a thing for her?
But Purges are a right wing phenomena to attack society, they’d never be able to off a millionaire.
A day or two before Musky gets on his private jet and flies off to a third country, or a private island or somewhere while right wing hate groups kill off minorities, leftists, and political critics.
The last three weeks or so of Chinese video game reporting has basically been:
“They’ll never shortlist us for GotY. They’ll never choose a Chinese game for GotY. It’s all a Western ploy to denigrate and deny Chinese achievement because They are jealous that the first Chinese AAA game is so good.”
It’s been tiring.
Edit: just opened up my Chinese feeds, and I’m glad to report that the first one I found was criticising netizens for review bombing BG3 and defending the Larian speech, and giving it a more detailed translation.
