I umderstand your reasoning and I sure hope the fediverse will succeed. I doubt the normies will come over any time soon, but that is not really a bad thing. What is bad tho, is the fragmentation of data over so many instances, duplicate communities not knowing about each other and the censorship some instances apply. I don’t even know how some of these will get fixed or if they will ever, as they are core part of a decentralized architecture. Usb is a carrying digital signals for the most part while headphonea are analog. So you have 2 options:

1. Implement some janky non-standard analog audio in some usb alternate mode that will only work with some devices
2. Add a digital to analog converter in the plug itself, which is more complex and expensive

Both options prevent you from chanrging while using headphones unless you use a splitter or wireless charging which is not ideal

3.5 mm may not be the king, but it’s extremly simple and fairly robust and has little to no disatvantages except for wireless headphones sales ofc. You don’t have to charge these heqdphones, you don’t have to worry about losing one of them.

Wireless headphonwa have their uses, I doubt they benefit the majority of people tho.

Now, type C is a thing and it helps with plugging it in right the first time, but that one has the HUGE issue with allowing any protocol since USB 1.0 and everyrhing else is optional. That may help in the case of a properly installed usb port, but what if the port is upside down? Or what if it’s a vertical port? Is upside left or right?

What about DLCs? And micro-transactions? And lack of optimisations? Base games these days are more like beta versions of what used to be provided in the past… It kinda feels like shrinkflation, price is the same but you get a lot less, both in quality and quantity.

Windmills are a whole lot better than burning coal, but aren’t perfect. Recyling the blades after their 20 year lifespan is a nightmare.
