I think Lemmy developers should focus on developing and supporting Lemmy’s core features and not stuff like novelty bots. Lemmy is not a monolithic entity, so the rules regarding implementing such bots would be up to each instance and then each community on the instance. There’s no technical reason I’m aware of that would prevent such a bot from working, just a question as to whether it would be allowed or even welcomed.
But then who is putting everything on the treadmills on the other side?
He got the treadmills because he’s too lazy to go into the kitchen to get the snacks, and I assume the snacks being stored in the fridge and cabinets- otherwise, why not just keep the snacks where he is sitting now? But then how are the snacks getting onto the treadmills from their respective storage?
The National Guard is not monolithic either, as it is per service and per state. I.e. Minnesota Air National Guard, Minnesota Army National Guard, Iowa Air… you get it
Asklemmy’s purpose is a place to ask open-ended questions, “an actual topic of discussion”, as the sidebar puts it, its not really meant to just answer questions that could be researched and answered.

I’m making an ass of myself assuming that he’s just a known quantity at this point. I should realize that not everyone was alive, watching those channels on TV then, or that corner of YouTube now! He was on Mythbusters, which was a very popular science entertainment show on the discovery channel from 2003-2018, and his livestreams on the Tested YouTube channel since then are pretty popular where he talks about being a “maker” and all that entails - freelancing, skills, tools, jobs, relationships, etc etc etc.
I can’t think of a particular video where he mentioned cardboard+hot glue, he’s mentioned it a few times because he’s not shy about repeating things- he’d rather convey a point than worry that he’s told a story or anecdote before. I mentioned it here because it really stuck with me with its simplicity- along with a thought in the back of my head that I should get a hot glue gun myself one of these days…
I do not, just passing along the concept. I catch his recorded live streams fairly regularly and I know that he’s mentioned cardboard + hot glue on multiple occasions, especially when “how do I get started?” type questions come up.

I can think of anything, but because lots of packaging is cardboard, I’m reminded that Adam Savage has recommended cardboard and hot glue as a way to get into making props and cosplay and such! It’s such a low barrier to entry and really easy to work with, and surprisingly versatile. Even if you plan on using more robust materials in the future, it can be a cheap way to make a proof of concept

Neat idea, but most question askers seem to be shoehorning their questions into the binary format instead of thoughtfully considering what the actual binary choice would boil down to. The low quality of questions makes me not want to participate in the jury duty option. I wish I had a suggestion- I’m sure you want to keep things simple and accessible
Very good points!! I hope people realize these things- not to dissuade them from using it entirely, heck I still like it as a store and I’m glad it still donates something to charity- but i also think it’s important to recognize that it is definitely NOT the entity it once was
