  • I was going to bring up card catalogues and microfiche, but it is more difficult now, especially with all the AI written articles popping up a la carte as top results.

I guess it would be like the physical library having a fee^1 to enter, the librarian men and women in lingerie and banana hammocks, and all the publications unsorted: Fiction and Non-Fiction together with celebrity magazines, The National Enquirer, and nazi publications… and lots of torn out pages.

^1 Fee replaces ads. I’d rather not picture a world where the advertising in the show Maniac exists. (Can’t afford the bus? The ad-reader shows up and speaks ads at you until you have “earned” the $1.25, or whatever.)

  • I quit a few months after those came out in my province, and it was a bit of a shock the first time I saw them; but then like most things, they just became stripes on the butt. I probably wasn’t their target audience though.

While they didn’t make me quit, (I had already decided on my “quit date”), I will say the extra graphic warning pictures were pretty damm effective for starting that conversation with self. I had to take a sharpie to a few packs.

I only found this out the other night because my fridge went dead silent for a long time. I thought it was borked, so I was peering deep into the freezer when I saw The Gates of Hell through the grate.

(Okay, so full disclosure, I had smoked some pot, but it totally looked like when Dana opened the fridge to Zuul before she was The Gatekeeper.) 😱😱😱

Anyways, turns out it was in defrost mode (which happens twice a day), and that involves some elements going orange or something. I know that’s vague-- I looked it up, but as I mentioned, I was high, so I only kinda remember, lol.

    Edit:

The refrigerator activates a heating element located near the evaporator coil. This element warms the coils, causing any ice buildup to melt.

  • I’m learning Polish, and spelling (rz dz sz cz ł and ą ę ż ś) is all fine for me-- the thing I struggle with is the grammatical cases. The fact that the ending of everything changes is what has caused me to give up twice 🥺

I will pick it up again, but I sucked at the Masculine/Feminine thing with French, and this is a lot more difficult.

    • KOTU
    • KOTEM
    • KOCIE <— (This is where I quit: Locative case took the T away WTF?!)

    Przepraszam moja drogi!!

I vote left (Canadian), and I think she’s a menace to the environment. There’s this weird logical fallacy going around that if you dislike her, you must be a conservative. SloppyEngineer’s article says she shat out 2.8 tonnes of c02 emissions on this 28 mile trip-- it’s okay to call out hypocrisy, she doesn’t get a pass.

It’s nice that she got the GoP finally care about climate change though, haha.
