They’ll be goofy and silly and then drop the greatest western song put to verse that you’ve ever heard.

I will never stop being sad over when the Primus website stopped being primussucks.com for primusville or what the fuck ever.

Real heads remember that “Primus sucks” is the clarion call of people who fucking love Primus.

This explains why the crowd was shouting this when I saw Primus performing Rush last year! I was very confused lol. 🤘

speaking of old times, wasn’t winamp’s genre dropdown menu had ‘primus’ sticking among all other genres, suggesting how special primus are?

Came here to say this. But as usual I came too late (except for intercourse, where it’s the opposite).

Does Weird Al count? Because he is just as talented as any “serious” musician.

Also, The Presidents of the United States of America.

Also, The Presidents of the United States of America.

The song “More Bad Times” came on my Spotify radio playlist a few years back. I had never heard the song before. I was dying of laughter. I was not at all prepared for a song that silly.

I was waiting for someone to say TPUSA. Their entire first album is basically the answer to this question.

Unlike the other bands listed in this thread, Weird Al manages to rock even when he’s covering other musical genres!

There’s also songs that may have been initially inspired by a certain other artist but strayed far enough to be basically completely original, such as Albuquerque and (possibly my favorite Weird Al song of them all) Hardware Store.

Not to mention the polkas, which is what I really had in mind when I was talking about him making other genres rock.

Man, that’s just wacky to see those bands in one sentence in reference to rocking and being silly. You’re not wrong.

One of my favorites - Frank Zappa’s Apostrophe / Overnight Sensation.

Bloodhound Gang, Blink 182, Sum 41, Sublime, Men Without Hats, They Might Be Giants, Tenacious D, Ugly Kid Joe, Green Jelly / Jello, The Dead Milkmen, Dee Lite, Squeeze.

Maybe Beck? Que’ Onda Guero always makes me giggle.

And, a bit of a different genre but Father John Misty’s songs are sarcastic and often nonsensical. They sound all romantic and dreamy but the lyrics don’t always match the vibe.

I thought of another one. That band Bloodhound Gang has some goofy songs. Obviously they have that one over-played song, but they also have a song that is just Ralph Wiggins quotes.

Beck is a tough one because he does have a lot of goofy songs, but they’re mixed in with ones that are strange and surreal but less goofy.

Debra is a great example of a funny Beck song.

Girl I want to get with you / Only you / And your sister / I think her name is Debra

      Lady, step inside my Hyundai

There is a lot of hip hop that fits this idea of great music with wacky lyrics.

Megan thee stallion, cardi b, and the like sing some raunchy songs.

Bbno$, yung gravy, lil dicky, flynt flossy and the entire turquoise jeep records collection of artists are humor-forward

Then theres czarface which has made many albums all about comic book characters.

Okay, unironically have you heard of Gangstagrass? They did the theme for Justified, and I think they’re based in Nashville, but they fuse bluegrass with hip-hop and goddamn does it sound amazing. It’s like purely American I love it.

          Ah, that’s a good call!

I’m a big fan of Justified & looked Ganstageass up back during the original run, but have failed to keep up with them. Will have to catch up!

There’s also “SlamGrass” out there as a genre. I’ve only had the chance to see O’ Death, but I really dig their tune, “Only Daughter”.

Any time drummer Tré Cool takes the stage at a Green Day show, you’re in for a treat. Dominated Love Slave is his signature, but there’s also Like a Rat Does Cheese which is unreleased and All By Myself closes Dookie.
