Vimm’s Lair is a site dedicated to console videogame nostalgia.
And looks like Rockstar Games decided to take the ROM down. Wondering why only for PS2, why only San Andreas and why only NTSC. Because PAL, other platforms and other GTA games for PS2 are unaffected.
oh my god vimms lair brings back memories of being in uni in 2000 and finding seiken densetsu 3 for the first time and staying up all night playing it
takedowns are automated these days, either through full automation or paying low cost labor in places like India to just do google searches. Rockstar isn’t “doing” anything here, aside from paying someone else to issue the takedowns. and the someone else doesn’t know enough or care enough to apply logic that would cause all the other versions to get taken down too.
Still on archive.org so I’m not worried but I still hate to see stuff like this happen because of the precedent that it sets.
I didn’t know about this 10 minutes ago, but now I’m downloading it from a torrent.
Good job Rockstar, you fucking losers.
It doesn’t matter if you are downloading it, what matters is that you’ll play it and/or won’t get the “Definitive Edition” or whatever is called the crap they are changing for this one.
Rockstar: “Nooo, we’re just helping you! The version we took down is the version with 4000 points required on Life’s A Beach!”
This and cdromance were the 2 sites I thought were untouchable since google often didn’t return them. Nothing is sacred.
Nothing is sacred.
Torrents are, but that requires commitment (seed, don’t leech only).
Last time I did check Cdromance, don’t have links to download anymore, I like that place because has many roms with patched QoL romhacks. Maybe now you need to have an account.
You go to the same url but .org and put the new cdr_ticket number there.
Is it because that version of the game had the “hot coffee” code on the disc?
Maybe because it’s superior to the version they are selling
The fun part is – it is superior because it includes missions you can do in coop unlike it’s release on PC where they were cut. I don’t remember if it could play your own music tho.
Oh forgot about that, I was thinking of the graphics, which you cant get on PC without modding
Side note, I’m impressed Vimm’s lair is still going strong. I remember using it to get SNES ROMs for ZSNES early 2000s.
Wow, I definitely didn’t know it was that old, I know about it recently because ROM sites have become more difficult to browse and find (good sourced).
The look of the page definitely checks those days though.
Yeah, everyday I fear it’ll get taken down. I’m seriously unsure how it’s lasted this long. I hope it stays up forever though.
