Old Yoda is insane! I have no idea what happened between Prequel and Sequel.
Well, Yoda was always a huge troll.
What is hard to explain is why R2D2 acted like that.
I like the way samus12345 put it.
The relationship between R2D2 and Anakin makes no sense in the old movies.
Like, Darth Vader just ignores it???
Like, especially in clone wars, R2D2 is the biggest badass of all, saved Anakins life so often.
Well, he’s ancient, so there’s probably a touch of senility, a dash of insanity from extended isolation, and a good amount of pretending to be some crazy hermit to get an unfiltered view of Luke’s personality. He also seems to have done a lot of reflection on how the Order screwed itself, first during his exile, and then after his death.
Plus whatever he’s been eating in that swamp.
Yoda is the best.
Wise and crazy is always the most real combo.
Unlike Mace Windu who is just badass, or Obi Wan that is always british.

When R2 gives up and lets go, his final little punctuated whack to shut R2’s tool hatch…that might be my favorite character beat in the entire series. Like, “That’s right, fucker!”
