Well my coworker is considering a PS5, but is leaning towards a more powerful prebuilt gaming pc for about $100 more.

I know 2 people that got them. My one friend who will buy anything video game related and is still single at 40, and my boss who appears to be rich af somehow and will also buy everything video game related just to have it. For reference my boss and I were talking about building new pcs earlier this year and I started telling him about my normal one I built last year and he then proceeds to tell me about this 12k monster he just put together… we are not the same.

I was riding my ebike to my friends workplace and his boss saw it. Quite the overweight fella to put it lightly. He asked about it and was very interested. A week later he sported a 14k ebike, with full mtb gear and everything. That was 2 years ago, he hasn’t touched it once apparently

As long as one is okay with the requisite time tinkering to get it up and running, the gaming PC still seems like a no-brainer to me at these prices. So much utility, including doubling as a work station.

I guess a bit can be saved on games by selling the discs later, but that requires the disc drive add-on, so we’re already looking at more up-front cost. And yet somehow, the base unit is still cheaper than the PS3 was, adjusting for inflation.

Yeah, they’re gonna have to take my Windows 10 from my cold, dead hands.

Well he says he “thinks” it hasn’t had a negative impact. It’s not even been a week though lol

I also think it will never negatively impact the console sales. It’s just another product on top of already ongoing console sales.

Whether it’s actually profitable, considering the production cost and all, is something different though. I think for the foreseeable future people will probably buy the older models over the more expensive new ones anyway. Unless you got money to burn there’s little reason to upgrade to the Pro.

Because the scalpers bought a whole bunch. From PlayStation’s perspective it’s a success because they got paid.

I bought mine. I had a PS4 Pro and was intentionally holding out for the 5 Pro. I was surprised how easy it was to get one, stock was no issue on launch day. I’m really happy with it, but they aren’t cheap.
