    My phone was on 5% battery so I turned it off. While sitting on the shitter, I examined its pale blue body (Moto g84) and observed the dents on the edges from the times it had fallen to a hard surface.

    I reminisced back 30 years when it would have been a Phillips, Hanimex, Aiwa or Sony walkman that had been my similar constant companion, whose design was etched in my memory after months or years of use.

    They’re kind of right. We don’t see the phone for what it is, but rather for what it displays; although the intimate knowledge of the contols of the phone remain.

      It’s also worth mentioning that those devices all had wildly different designs, controls, and layouts. Every new model was a whole new thing to look at.

      All our phones now are glass bricks with roughly the same set of controls. Not too exciting to stare at, especially when off.
