Aspartame is one of the most widely studied food additives ever and I’m not aware of any conclusive results that ever came out suggesting it’s harmful.

If anything, it’s probably safer than all the other sweeteners just because it’s received so much attention and study.

Someone correct me if im wrong but theres few sugar substitutes that dont cause insulin reactions. So I don’t buy the zero calorie lable that’s allo over these types of sweetener. For fasting purposes they break fasts and for diabetic purposes they can be worse than sugar. At least when I buy a drink with real sugar it doesn’t mislead me about the calorie content. I really like diet coke with the aspartame though, but I assume it’s just about as bad as the normal one.

I’d like to see stevia used more on sugar-free products, but that will probably raise prices.

Pretty much every food regulatory agency in the world has deemed aspartame safe. There were some worrying studies all the way back in the '70’s, but those were almost certainly bogus due to conflicts of interest with the sugar industry. It’s just as safe as MSG, which I personally believe people get so worked up over just because it has a “scary-sounding” chemical name.

I find aspartame and stevia have a weird taste. So I’d be happy with more alternatives.

    And who are these governors?
