I think it’s 50-50, because the Chinese l sound is pronounced with the tongue in the position somewhere between the Latin r and l sounds. So it’s just as likely to be heard as a “wrong” L or a “wrong” R.
The fun part is that the tropes stick to our own way of pronouncing the letter (r becomes l or vice versa) instead of attempting to pronounce the Chinese sound correctly…

I’m not usually that guy but this seems to be the thread for it. Initialisms and acronyms are both types of abbreviation, where you pronounce acronyms as a word (NASA) and initialisms as individual letters (FBI).
I’ve had meetings at work over this. I had to draw a flow chart.

Upper-class British used to ‘drop the h’ on words with a french root to show off their education. Historic had a silent H but hawk did not, for example.
Side note: H has a silent H, it’s “aitch” not “haitch”.

There are habitable planets orbiting about one in five stars. So a few hundred habitable worlds in that range. Why do none of them transmit?

The distances don’t account for the complete, total lack of evidence, though. Our civilization is detectable to dozens of light years at least, if you’re looking. And we are looking. So, the others… Where are they?
