I want to send a thank you to a local government official. getting flowers delivered is like minimum $50 these days so fuck that. something like a gift card might be inappropriate for a government employee to accept.
any ideas?
A card or letter? Obvs is changes by location, but my local govt people can’t even accept a cup of coffee.
$25 or less is the US Fed rule.
For some reason, I don’t think the supreme court would agree with that figure.

Consider that any gift with a monetary value is likely something that they will need to report.
Sending two cards, one to them and one to their boss is one way to show your appreciation.
If you’re not sure about their boss, send the second card higher up the chain.
that would actually be perfect. I was getting nowhere with her stonewalling boss
If their boss was being a problem, make sure you don’t tell them specific details about how the employee helped. Especially if the employee bent some rules or otherwise went above what they should have. It might get the employee in trouble.
A pinecone on a stick.
Send a dozen donuts to be delivered first thing in the morning. Avoids the monetary limit and lets them be a hero for sharing the donuts with their coworkers.
A donut delivery service? That’s the most American thing I have read today.
You can get almost anything delivered now with uber eats, door dash, etc. Don’t most countries have this now?
I did that for the cops involved. hadn’t occurred to me for them lol
Gift basket full of snacks
I guess it depends on the specific laws of your country, but IMO gifts that have any real value save symbolics are off the table (even if not strictly illegal). I would just send a heartfelt letter expressing my gratitude. That would certainly make them feel very much appreciated!

Larry David voice Flowers?! Too much! It’s too much. What am I… about to marry them? Meeeeeh. No. It’s not for me.
Again I don’t know about your local rules or what’s available but since you were considering flowers and decided against them because of the price, my suggestion would be a nice thank you card and maybe a small tiny cheap succulent plant. They are hardy, easy to keep even on a desk and they cost like a cup of coffee or so.
