the term “cake day” just makes me think of r*ddit. I’ve seen Lemon Day going around, but we probably want to avoid affiliation with lemon party.
not that we can tell anybody what to do anyway, and each instance could even have its own. anyway, it needs to be something that obviously means “anniversary” and doesn’t require explanation otherwise it’ll just be annoying
It’s your Beanniversary 🫘
cake day is just one more way to discourage you from leaving.
how’s that
the concept of account lifespan duration, regardless of what it’s called, exists only to make you feel more attached to your account.
cake day is a colloquial term that means birthday. it’s not invented by or for reddit. also being reminded of reddit isn’t something to avoid; you can survive. it’s just a website. be normal.
I think nothing is fine. Or narwhal bacon day for people who just can’t let go of reddit.
I keep asking people for examples of cake day being used before Reddit
you know what good point, i guess i was familiar with the term before i was familiar with reddit so I made the wrong assumption. still the rest of what i said is true: it doesn’t matter.
if it didn’t matter you wouldn’t have an opinion on it lol
so if someone asks a question you literally cannot say that it doesn’t matter, because in saying so you’ll have formed an opinion on it? that’s ridiculous.
you just gave the definition of having an opinion. I don’t know who you should be angry at about that but it certainly isn’t me
I’m not sure you’re understanding what I’m saying. but more importantly I’m not sure you’re understanding what you’re saying.
all I see is somebody still having a conversation 11 hours later about how little they have an opinion on something
we need to take cake day back. fuck reddit
I like the attitude but I never liked the term in the first place
So?
so I made this post.
I mean for some this is Lemmy for others this is Jarboa either way it’s a rodent therefore it may as well be cheese day 🧀
Although this would require agreement of most members of this free world app since some people are chees intolerant
Rat day
Groundhog’s Day.
waitaminute…
Groundhog’s Day.
waitaminute…
I kinda like cheese day
There are normal cheeses, there are lactose free cheeses and vegan cheeses as well. I think that’s all possible bases covered? Beside, cheese is delicious (I have yet to have a delicious vegan cheese but I’m told they exist - probably didn’t get here yet or too pricey for me)
- but that’s beside the point :D).
I vote cheese day, your logic is bullet proof.
And even if it isn’t, then you’ll have Swiss cheese.
But for some it is Mastodon or Mbin or PieFed or whatever. It shouldn’t be specific to lemmy.
explain the jarboa thing?
Jerboa is the official mobile app for Lemmy.
A lemming is a type of rodent, and so is a jerboa.
Android app made by the lemmy team is named jerboa
Excising yourself from bourgeois social media day just doesn’t have a good ring to it.
We call it a redditism and we fucking move on.
so we say “Happy redditism”?
I think we just don’t call it.
The people who like that kind of stuff can acknowledge it if they want
I think he meant that “cake day” is a redditism
Happy lem-aversery would work I think
It shouldn’t be lemmy specific. Lemmy is just one fediverse app.
but I’ll get that confused with the day that we celebrate the lunar excursion module from Apollo 11
Excuse you, sir, but you should be keeping the LEM in you hearts every day. And you call yourself an America. For shame.
Yep, I was thinking Lemmyversary.
Fediversary? Lemmyversary?
We don’t need a cake day.
Well it doesn’t help that they use the cake icon for it.
Not sure what else to propose calling it but anything else would be better.
On Hexbear I’ve only ever seen it called Molotov day
Mazel tov
a cake has been used to represent celebration of birthdays or anniversaries for longer than we’ve been calling them cake days
Cake day.
Make it as generic as possible
that’s not generic, that’s from Reddit as far as I can tell. “anniversary” would be generic
it doesnt become generic unless we make it ubiquitous
mbin already has it
that honestly kind of chaps my ass. why not just call it “date joined”
chaps my ass
Huh… Never heard that one before.
awww but i like the little cake icon and everything
im not going to let the enshitification of reddit take away everything i like. im also a bit salty about ‘karma’
calling it karma was so fucking smarmy
Free slurpee day, that’s my cake day too
Yeah it’s officially built in to Lemmy’s web UI too.
Cake Day is from birthdays, mate. You know? That annual celebration of creation where there’s usually cake?
Stop letting spez live in your head and just enjoy where you’re at.
which is why I’m asking for sources of it being used prior to reddit. I’m not arguing one way or another
Oxford English Dictionary says the first instance of the phrase “cake day” was from a diary entry in the 1800s.
I’m not arguing one way or another
You literally were.
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with people who can’t just scroll up and read
I’ve wished people a happy accountiversary before
we’re going to need sub-names for people’s alts as well
I thought accountiversary was another name for tax day
Annual commemorative pastry observance
I like the idea that the event is about honoring pastry, rather than measuring time
Maybe to commemorate one of the first viral posts, about not pooping for three days, it could be Poop Day.
Bean day!
coprolites of the internet
Why the lemon party hate >:(
did you google it
