Atari Jaguar emulation is set to grace iPhones, thanks to the efforts of programmer and Jaguar enthusiast, Richard Whitehouse, Head of Digital Conservation at The Video Game History Foundation. He’s nearly ready to publish his iOS emulator.
Still in development stages but with hopeful plans for release next month. He posted this update on Twitter: “It’s alive! Still lots of work to be done”, suggesting much more work is needed before full public availability. But the potential to play beloved games like Tempest 2000 is exciting.
Context
While iOS has seen its fair share of retro game emulators, this marks a significant addition for Jaguars fans. The emulator’s release would provide another piece to the vibrant puzzle of nostalgic gaming on mobile platforms.
What are your favourite memories of the Atari Jaguar?
That’s a lot of work to play like 6 games.
Or even one 🤣
What other 5 are you talking about?
It’s okay guys. You can just call it a Tempest 2000 emulator. Don’t feel bad.
I’m literally going to this talk tomorrow:
Hello from Portland
Why? You should just port Tempest 2000 and save yourself some time.
Yeah but where did you learn to fly?
From Jeff
I’m probably a masochist, but Alien vs. Predator, despite (and possibly because of) all its technical limitations and like 3 FPS framerate, was genuinely scary and a unique experience.
I also really enjoyed Iron Soldier. You’ve got the original Rayman. Uhhh… Cybermorph was alright.
So five games?
