I think of 2023 as the worst year for anime. Not a single good show out of what I watched and the ones that I heard were good I’m just not interested in (Jujutsu Kaisen, Zom 100, Bleach, etc).
Compare 2023 to any single season from 2006-2011. So many classics compared to… Frieren? and that’s about it.
Not that I’m upset about it, there’s enough gems anywhere from late 70s though ~2017 to keep me occupied indefinitely
Dark Souls and Return of the Obra Dinn have already been mentioned, but I’ll also recommend Universal Paperclips. These also happen to be my favorite 3 games.

In elementary school I read this book called “Flawed Dogs” and it was unforgettably wild. It’s about a dog who escapes some kinda confinement by jumping over a barbed wire fence and loses his back legs in the process, and then joins a dog gang and does dog gang activities. Also one of the dog gang members was a cat in disguise.
Honestly I should see if I can find a copy of it and reread it. It was pretty wild.

I’ve never heard of TemTem before and plugging it into Google Trends, it looks like it’s not even comparable to Palworld. It’s still somewhat big, looks like 500,000 copies sold. But still doesn’t really compare to what appears to be nearly 20 million Palworld players.
Companies lose rights to protect their IP if they don’t protect it themselves, so it may be in their best interest to go after the big competitors and pretend they’ve never heard of TemTem.
Is it moral and ethical to pirate media?
This is a good one. I had a high school computer class and we had a quiz question that was something like:
Digital piracy is:
a. Moral and legal
b. Moral and illegal
c. Immoral and legal
d. Immoral and illegal
Of course, the only correct answer was “d”. I thought it was such a one-dimensional and purposely ignorant question. I’m not even a piracy advocate or anything, but that was kinda ridiculous.
Seconding AltSnap although I use normal controls with an Alt key bound to a mouse button. Special shoutouts to “Action menu” for all the cool stuff it lets you do and “Windows list” which is just a better version of Alt+tabbing if you have multiple monitors.

Imagus feels like in an alternate universe it could be default browser behavior. When you hover over an image it will expand to full resolution and then you can press buttons to open in new tab, download, zoom in, etc.
Works on pretty much any website and is nice if the website has sized the images too small or if your eyesight is less than great.
I’m surprised only a handful of people have mentioned Ghibli movies. For me it was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, it’s probably one of the first movies I remember watching in general. Still my favorite Ghibli movie and I must have watched it dozens of times as a kid.
The source material for it is a manga by Miyazaki himself and it’s much longer and deeper (the movie only covers about 1.5 out of 7 volumes, and changes a lot of details). Highly recommended.

I’m with you on the Gamecube controls, tank controls are awkward but Wii pointing is more awkward. Although the best control scheme I used was a Steam controller on Dolphin (for the Wii version).
Phantom Hourglass was my first but Spirit Tracks is my favorite. I actually really like the stylus DS controls (and it’s not even that bad using a mouse on an emulator either) but the main thing I like is the music and story. Music and story I would say are both better in Spirit Tracks than any other game in the series. It also is one of the few games in the series that you can really call a legend of Zelda. She’s there the whole time and the main story focuses on her character arc.
Just overall an amazing experience with some really dramatic moments, if I had to summarize what I like about it more than the other games in the series I’d say it’s the most “cinematic & dramatic”
Just looked up “take my lead” on playphrase.me to check, it shows up in a couple movies, even a Star Wars.

Yeah I don’t expect so many people to have the same opinion but for me I didn’t really like anything in 2023. My personal “golden age” is 2006-2011 and I can pull up any year at random (say, 2010) and find a bunch of personal favorites (second season of K-On!, best season of Hidamari Sketch, The Tatami Galaxy, my beloved B-Gata H-Kei) and other stuff I think I might enjoy (Katanagatari, PSG, Kuragehime, etc.)
Whereas the only things I liked in 2023 were the Hibike! Euphonium movie and (to a much milder degree) Frieren.
Probably not a widespread belief, but yeah 2023 is the worst year for anime imo
