For me it’s the Linux and Star Trek stuff. I’m curious to what communities you find annoying enough to block.
I block every sport one that comes across my /all
Tankies and non English communities
I have over 100 communities in my block list. I scroll through All and if I see a community over and over that I truly don’t care about I just add it to the block list. Scrolling through All becomes a way to find new communities I like instead of being 500 posts I don’t care about
It’s funny. I look at blocking as some king of moral judgment against the community, and so I don’t end up using it to shape my feed due to annoyance.
But, man, would I like to browse all without a million 196 posts.
Maybe it’s time I start.
Nice that’s also exactly how I browse Lemmy, so much variety compared to only focusing on communities you subscribed to.
huh, so like a reverse subscription feed curation. Definitely an interesting take I hadn’t considered but would probably want an alt for that purpose as you can’t “undo” it that easily like you can switch between subscription feed and all feed. Could be a nice experience when I’m just in a viewing mood (bathroom, work breaks, etc) and not really looking to interact.
I am blocking everything religious.
I do not want to see christians and other religious folk trying to talk other people into their beliefs.
@Jezebelley@fedia.io Tankies and Far left mostly, I’m not American, so I also block a fair amount of America-centric communities, as I am just not a target of those
And memes, they’re usually unfunny to me
All the tankie (far “left”) shit. It’s all either bad faith arguments (trolling), blatant propaganda or people who never bothered to fact check the propaganda.
They also create an inordinate amount of communities, had to use the “block instance” button a lot.
NSFW stuff also gets annoying after a while, but that seems less prevalent. (Just had to block one instance to get 99%)
Looking at my block list, the AI images and niece music stuff also got added at some point.
Tankie is far left? I thought it was far right. I admit I never really was sure, though.
If you’re in America, do you see the entire rest of the g-20 as really far left? They do free healthcare and schooling in the g-20 but require almost as much tax as America, and I’m wondering if that makes them appear really far left given America’s parties are center-right and far-right and everyone could have that as their point of view.
I mostly see tankies as an authoritarian (far right?) group pretending to be far left. Or at least that’s how they brand it, even though they openly advocate for government confiscation of all property.
Have you ever spoken to a leftist?
Half of this comment section is people who probably consider themselves “centrist” but shriek tankie and block anybody even an inch left of biden. 🤣
Half of Lemmy, I would say. There’s a bimodal distrubution on Lemmy, centering around Leftism and Liberalism, with variance among those.
Holy shit, do I have a fucking list. 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I see it, I block it, boy oh boy do I have a list
!
And they say fediverse does not have very niche communities…
Who knows how many are active, but yeah it’s really bad. I’ll be power scrolling All for random porn (I see something blurred out), I click on it, oh fuck, my eyes. Lol
Some of these names, too. It makes me laugh. “Welcome to… Gay Fisting”. 😆
Basically only the communities in another language, I don’t have any issues with it, other than not wanting to translate news articles.
I do have one user blocker that is a troll or bot that is constantly posting political stuff, something like 30+ posts a day and nearly 80 comments a day, most of which are down voted to hell for obvious reasons.
All the “middrif/glasses/office/has limbs-moe” communities. All the porn, furry, and celebrity stuff. Also Star Trek and Linux. Not because they were bad, but I felt like that was all I was ever seeing. Also the sports/team communities.
None. I’m kind of surprised most people don’t use lemmy the same way as reddit, I assume nobody just browsed /r/all?
I block a number of them:
- languages I don’t speak, just because I can’t read them anyway ;-)
- I’m banned from one, so I insta-blocked it.
- if I can’t comment, I don’t wanna see it.
Hmm. I guess I block anything where communication isn’t bidirectional. I have a television, so I don’t need passive consumption of non-interactive content here.
I prefer to block individual users rather than whole communities simply because doing so could lead to an echo chamber of not proper mitigated.
However, I do block anything related to anime or waifu. And general porn.
I’m not prude, but Lemmy is where I come to discuss/debate a range of topics with others so I’d like to be able to open it in public.
Just sports mainly and weird anime titties
Sports. I do not care. And keywords futa, yiff, and ecchi.
In /All I’ll block things that are going to always be in a language I don’t understand, or communities or users with extreme opinions that don’t offer what I consider to be reasonable counterpoints to my own beliefs. I don’t want an echo chamber but I will only engage with factual discourse that priorities compassion and humanity.
Linux users, like vegans, will tell you they use it even if you never ask
I use Arch, btw
(sorry)
That’s not true at all, for Linux users or vegans. The problem is that there are people some that feel a sense of superiority because they use Linux or are vegan and they just won’t shut the fuck up about it.
Yes it is
Well, most of those some of them are on Lemmy.
I use Arch, btw…
Kidding, of course - but there are some of those folks out there. TBF, they’re the vocal minority, but they are vocal nonetheless.
