Dear diary,
It’s January 22, 2025. People are still spamming politics in communities unrelated to politics. Despite being told multiple times to stop, I don’t think they can take a hint.

Not every Lemmy user is a US citizen
But I like truuuuummp!
oops.
OP: “Some people tried to do a coup to overthrow the government, you should know who they are”
You: “this is so political!”
Who gives a shit. Why is this in the YSK community? Why should I know this? Someone posted a list of names on the internet, now what? We beat fascism or something?
Take it to the US politics community and stop invading every single crevice on Lemmy to whine about it.
If no one gives a shit, why the fuck do you? You could just shut the fuck up about it and go right back to enjoying corncob enemas with none being the wiser.
Because you’re spamming USPOL in literally every other post on general communities on the entire platform? I literally could not have made it clearer.

No.
I give a shit. And I sure as hell don’t want to ever see any of these bigoted thugs hired again.
We beat fascism or something?
That is the implication. That you should find local fascists and beat them.
Now now, no one is suggesting violence (out loud). OP is just letting people know that the information is available. If someone uses that information to enact justice where the legal system failed to? Well that’s up to them and none of my business.
This is what Lemmy is, generally. Whiny babies that think Communism is great because mass executions somehow prop up human rights, everything conservative is bad, and anything outside Mom’s basement is scary.
I support you, but it seems like we really are in the minority here
Politics is involved in EVERY aspect of life whether you realize it or not - particularly those involving any other person. It affects through what kind of lens things are viewed - factual or not. Even trying to avoid given topics reveals your political leanings. THIS fact is DEFINITELY something you should know.
Not every Lemmy user is a US citizen
A large group of militant citizens trying to overthrow a global superpower is newsworthy to everyone whether you want it to or not.
I’m American so I was I not supposed to care about the recent situation in South Korea? Should I have complained because not everyone on Lemmy is a South Korean citizen?
Not only is it basic human decency to empathize with others regardless of their geographical coordinates, but political crises across the globe can still potentially affect me, even indirectly.

That event wasn’t posted on !youshouldknow@lemmy.world , it was posted on World News communities, where this post would completely fit.

YSK - for all the things that can make your life easier!
Does this post fit this description? I’m not saying it’s not interesting, just that it’s not relevant in this community.
That’s a tagline, not a rule. You’d have better luck with referencing an actual rule, say Rule 5.
YSK - for all the things that can make your life easier!
Does this post fit this description?
Yes, this list makes it easier for me to identify terrorists that might be living in my neighborhood. Therefore It makes my life easier, and is topical.
Not every Lemmy user isn’t either. Want more non-US content? Post it.
I do regularly post content on
I prefer not to flood this community with country-specific content.

Is YSK a community for information that would only affect people living in he USA?
This post follows all the community rules. If you don’t like it, downvote and move on.
Looks like it’s gone now.
Update: legally it’s now a list that violates the privacy of various ordinary citizens who have done nothing wrong.
No it’s not you freaking dolt. There is no explicit or implicit right to privacy in the United States. Not to mention that this is published by the United States government in relation to federal criminal cases. The people on this list are criminals. They are either in the process of serving their sentences and have been pardoned or they have already served their sentences. But they have all committed crimes. They are all traitors, they are all criminals.
Don’t think that’s true. The condition of a pardon is admitting guilt.
…for now.
YSK There is a list of the January 6th Traitors…
FIFY
Someone download, quick! Definitely adding this to my company’s pre-hiring due diligence and background check procedures.
Is it legal to discriminate against a felon if the felony was pardoned? Genuine question. They were found guilty but got off anyway. Similarly, would they still need to check YES on “have you been convicted of a felony” on forms?
Being a felon is not a protected class.
If someone legally wears a, “I hate black people” t-shirt, posts pictures online, applies at my company, and I see them, that would be disqualifying. I think participating in a riot at the capital, regardless of conviction would be the same.
For the second part, were their sentences commuted or were they pardoned? I’ve tried to keep this past week’s political news at arms length to maintain my sanity. If they were just commuted, then they’re still convicted felons, but I think with a pardon, the record is expunged. I made that last part up on gut instinct alone, so don’t take it as fact, but it makes sense to me.
I have a fiduciary obligation to hire employees with integrity, who abide by the law. I don’t think a presidential pardon makes any difference to how I evaluate a candidate, regardless of type. Maybe the law treats the two differently, but I don’t think I need to. If anything, benefiting from a pardon makes me less likely to hire them: they haven’t repaid their debt to society, they just got lucky.
“Have you ever been convicted of a felony?” is a pretty straightforward yes/no question.
True. When phrased that way, it’s pretty definitive.
Some of those pardoned were not yet convicted of anything.
So long as you don’t discriminate against a legally protected class, you can discriminate all you want.
The key, though, is to never specify why you aren’t hiring them. You have more legal cover if you don’t specify why you aren’t hiring them.
“bad cultural fit”
Considering he just EO’d to get rid of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, they ostensibly don’t care about anything but “merit”

Someone will upload it to the Internet Archive.
Streisand Effect. Even if they take it down, it’ll always be available somewhere. And the more anyone tries to scrub it from the internet, the more available it’ll become.
The dude who owns AWS stood behind Trump at the inauguration. The owner of the third biggest cloud service was in the same row.
What’s stopping you from doing it?
